Christ Jesus – The Word of God

“He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.” – Revelation 19:13

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” – John 1:1

Jesus as The Word of God is very clear in some Scripture and not quite so evident in other parts.  The following is a selection of The Word, Jesus Christ, as written in both the New Testament as well as the Old Testament:

  • “The word is very near you.” – Deuteronomy 30:14
  • “Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor had the word of the Lord yet been revealed to him.” – 1 Samuel 3:7
  • “the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the Lord” – 1 Samuel 3:21
  • “For the sake of Your word …” – 2 Samuel 7:21
  • “As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him.” – 2 Samuel 22:31
  • “the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth” – 1 Kings 17:24
  • “The word of the Lord is with him.” – 2 Kings 3:12
  • “As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him.” – Psalm 18:30
  • “For the word of the Lord is upright, and all His work is done in faithfulness.” – Psalm 33:4
  • “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made.” – Psalm 33:6  (“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.  For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth.” – Colossians 1:15-16)
  • “In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust.” – Psalm 56:4
  • “Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.” – Psalm 103:20
  • “till what he foretold came to pass, till the word of the Lord proved him true.” – Psalm 105:19
  • “Some became fools through their rebellious ways …suffered affliction because of their iniquities … they cried to the Lord in their trouble … He saved them … He sent forth His word and healed them … He rescued them from the grave.” – Psalm 107:17-20
  • “My soul weeps because of grief; strengthen me according to Your word.” – Psalm 119:28
  • “May Your loving kindnesses also come to me, O Lord, Your salvation according to Your word.” – Psalm 119:41
  • “So I will have an answer for him who reproaches me, For I trust in Your word.’ – Psalm 119:42

  • “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.” – Psalm 119:89

  • “My eyes fail with longing for Your salvation and for Your righteous word.” – Psalm 119:123
  • “Your word is very pure.”  Psalm 119:140
  • “The sum of Your word is truth.” – Psalm 119:160
  • “I rejoice at Your word.” – Psalm 119:162
  • “You have exalted above all things your name and your word.” – Psalm 138:2
  • “For the law will go forth from Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” – Isaiah 2:3
  • “The word of our God stands forever.” – Isaiah 40:8
  • “I have sworn by Myself, The word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness and will not turn back, that to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.” – Isaiah 45:23 (“at the name of Jesus every knee should bow” – Philippians 2:10)
  • “… So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:10-11
  • “But which of them has stood in the council of the Lord to see or to hear his word?  Who has listened and heard his word?” – Jeremiah 23:18
  • “ ‘Is not My word like fire?’ declares the Lord.” – Jeremiah 23:29
  • “they will go to and fro to seek the word of the Lord” – Amos 8:12
  • “For from Zion will go forth the law, even the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” – Micah 4:2
  • “The word of the Lord is against you.” – Zephaniah 2:5
  • “The word of the Lord of hosts came to me …” – Zechariah 7:4
  • “The burden of the word of the Lord …” – Zechariah 9:1
  • “The oracle of the word of the Lord to Israel through Malachi.” – Malachi 1:1
  • ‘When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart.  This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road.  The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately falls away.  And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.  And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit.’ ” – Matthew 13:19-23

  • ‘Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.’ ” – John 17:17
  • “The word of God kept on spreading.” – Acts 6:7
  • “Those who had been scattered went about preaching the word.” – Acts 8:4
  • “The Gentiles also had received the word of God.” – Acts 11:1
  • “But the word of the Lord continued to grow and to be multiplied.” – Acts 12:24
  • “they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord” – Acts 13:48
  • “And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” – Acts 20:32

  • “The word of God abides in you and you have overcome the evil one.” – 1 John 2:14

“For the word of God is living and active and shaper than any two-edged sword.” – Hebrews 4:12

“In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword.” – Revelation 1:16

  • “Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has also rejected you …” – 1 Samuel 15:23
