Revelation 11

‘The Witnesses killed and raised’

Revelation 11:7 – “When they have finished their testimony [that is, 3 1/2 years later], the beast that comes up out of the abyss [written in Revelation 9:11 – at the 5th trumpet] will make war with them, and overcome them and kill them.”

Revelation 11:10 – “And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and celebrate; and they will send gifts to one another (this is a custom in certain cultures today), because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.”

Revelation 11:8-9 – ” And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city (Jerusalem) which mystically is called Sodom and Egypt (because of their similar sins), where also their Lord was crucified (Jerusalem).  Those from the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations will look at their dead bodies for 3 1/2 days, and will not permit their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb.”

‘The great city’ is definitely Jerusalem.  ‘Mystically called Sodom and Egypt’ is because Israel’s idolatries, immoralities and sins were the same as these other wicked peoples.

Revelation 11:11-12 – “But after the 3 1/2 days, the breath of life from God came into them, and they stood on their feet; and great fear fell upon those who were watching them.  And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, ‘Come up here’.  Then they went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them.”

The two witnesses might be Enoch and Elijah.  One reason is that neither died.  Hebrews 9:27 – “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment …”

However, another viewpoint is that the two witnesses might be Moses and Elijah, due to the fact that the two witnesses perform miracles previously done by these two men.  Revelation 11:6 – “These have the power to shut up the sky, so that rain will not fall during the days of their prophesying…”  Isaiah did that already.  1 Kings 17:1 – “As the Lord, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, surely there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”  Revelation 11:6 – “… and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood.”  Moses did that in Egypt.  Exodus 7:20-21 – “So Moses…lifted up the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile …and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood…and the blood was through all the land of Egypt.”

Readers, please always discern for yourselves everything you read and hear from all sources.

Let me just take a moment here to emphasis that all the comments I write in these posts are strictly my personal theories and opinions based on years of Bible study on the Book of Revelation.  I strongly believe what I write and I would like to share my thoughts and insights with others, for their consideration.  I’m hoping my posts can shed some light for those seeking.

To finish the post, the Two Witnesses had been prophesying for 1,260 days up to this point.  The killing of the two witnesses by the Beast is near the end of the mid-point of the Tribulation.  God’s anger is stirred and His wrath is coming with the 6th Trumpet.  It will be a fearsome judgment.
