Book of Psalms – End Times Prophecy

This series is a collection of the End Times prophetic Scripture verses as written in the various books of the Bible.

These posts will primarily cover what occurs after the fall of Babylon in Chapters 17 and 18, but valuable insights on the whole seven year tribulation period are included as well.

The End Times prophecies write extensively about Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, about His glorious Second Coming at the Seventh Trumpet, the Lord Jesus Christ defeating all His enemies and the Lord’s reign during the Millennium period.

There are also many Biblical passages from the prophets and the New Testament writers detailing the Day of the Lord and God’s wrath.

The Day of the Lord consists of: The Seventh Trumpet, the Rapture, the remnant of the Israelites being saved from the invading armies, the Wrath of God with all His curses and judgments coming on the whole world, and Armageddon.

The ensuing Wedding Feast and the Millennium period are described in many beautiful verses, as well as the New Heavens and the New Earth.

All these prophecies are intricately mingled throughout Scripture.  I am presenting everything as it is written.  Consequently they do jump from one topic to another, but are written just as the Holy Spirit inspired the writers to transcribe.  The reader’s attention to the details of each of the prophecies will assist in understanding their meanings and timelines.

I make occasional comments, however, my intent is to allow the written word of God speak to you directly.

Book of Psalms – End Times Prophecy

Psalm 2

(A Messianic Psalm)

The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed

“Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing?  The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!” – Psalm 2:1-3 (this is referring to Armageddon)

“He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them. Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying, ‘But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain.’ ” – Psalm 2:4-6

“I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.  Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as Your possession.  You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.’ ” – Psalm 2:7-9

“Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; take warning, O judges of the earth.  Worship the Lord with reverence and rejoice with trembling.  Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, for His wrath may soon be kindled.  How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!” – Psalm 2:10-12

verses 1-3: viewpoint of David;

verses 4-6: viewpoint of God;

verses 7-9: viewpoint of Jesus;

verses 10-12: viewpoint of the Holy Spirit

Psalm 8

The Lord’s Glory and Man’s Dignity

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth, who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!  From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength because of Your adversaries, to make the enemy and the revengeful cease.” – Psalm 8:1-2

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; what is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him?  Yet You have made him a little lower than God, and You crown him with glory and majesty!  You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas.  O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! – Psalm 8:3-9

Psalm 9

“But the LORD abides forever; He has established His throne for judgment, And He will judge the world in righteousness; He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity.” – Psalm 9:7-8

“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” – Psalm 9:17

Psalm 11

“Upon the wicked He will rain snares; Fire and brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup. For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; The upright will behold His face.” – Psalm 11:6-7

Psalm 18

(compare this with 2 Samuel 22:8-16 – they are almost identical)

“Then the earth shook and quaked; and the foundations of the mountains were trembling and were shaken, because He was angry.  Smoke went up out of His nostrils, and fire from His mouth devoured; coals were kindled by it.  He bowed the heavens also, and came down with thick darkness under His feet.  He rode upon a cherub and flew; and He sped upon the wings of the wind.  He made darkness His hiding place, His canopy around Him, darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.  From the brightness before Him passed His thick clouds, hailstones and coals of fire.  The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered His voice, hailstones and coals of fire.  He sent out His arrows, and scattered them, and lightning flashes in abundance, and routed them.  Then the channels of water appeared, and the foundations of the world were laid bare at Your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.” – Psalm 18:7-15 (this is concerning God’s wrath on the Day of the Lord, at the Seventh Trumpet)

Psalm 22

Psalm of the Cross

A Cry of Anguish and a Song of Praise

“My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34)  Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning.  O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer; and by night, but I have no rest.  Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel.  In You our fathers trusted; they trusted and You delivered them.  To You they cried out and were delivered; in You they trusted and were not disappointed.” – Psalm 22:1-5

“But I am a worm and not a man, a reproach of men and despised by the people.  All who see me sneer at me; they separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying, ‘Commit yourself to the Lord; let Him deliver him; let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.” – Psalm 22:6-8

“Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb; You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts.  Upon You I was cast from birth; You have been my God from my mother’s womb.” – Psalm 22:9-10

“Be not far from me, for trouble is near; for there is none to help.  Many bulls have surrounded me; strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.  They open wide their mouth at me, as a ravening and a roaring lion.  I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within me.  My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; and You lay me in the dust of death.  For dogs have surrounded me; a band of evildoers has encompassed me; they pierced my hands and my feet.  I can count all my bones.  They look, they stare at me; they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” – Psalm 22:11-18 – CHRIST DIED FOR ALL US SINNERS – HE WILL reign over all the earth.

“But You, O Lord, be not far off; O You my help, hasten to my assistance.  Deliver my soul; from the sword, my only life from the power of the dog.  Save me from the lion’s mouth; from the horns of the wild oxen You answer me.” – Psalm 22:19-21

“I will tell of Your name to my brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will praise You.  You who fear the Lord, praise Him; all you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, and stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel.  For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; nor has He hidden His face from him; but when he cried to Him for help, He heard.” – Psalm 22:22-24

“From You comes my praise in the great assembly; I shall pay my vows before those who fear Him.  The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; those who seek Him will praise the Lord.  Let your heart live forever!  All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will worship before You.  For the kingdom is the Lord’s and He rules over the nations.  All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship, all those who go down to the dust will bow before Him, even he who cannot keep his soul alive.  Posterity will serve Him; it will be told of the Lord to the coming generation.  They will come and will declare His righteousness to a people who will be born, that He has performed it.” – Psalm 22:25-31

Psalm 45

A Song Celebrating the King’s Marriage

Jesus’ Kingdom Rule

“My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my verses to the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.  You are fairer than the sons of men; grace is poured upon Your lips; therefore God has blessed You forever.” – Psalm 45:1-2

“Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Mighty One, in Your splendor and Your majesty!  And in Your majesty ride on victoriously, for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; let Your right hand teach You awesome things.  Your arrows are sharp; the peoples fall under You; Your arrows are in the heart of the King’s enemies.” – Psalm 45:3-5

“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom.  You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of joy above Your fellows.  (These verses are quoted in Hebrews 1:8-9.) All Your garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made You glad.  Kings’ daughters are among Your noble ladies; at Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.” – Psalm 45:6-9

“Listen, O daughter, give attention and incline your ear: forget your people and your father’s house; then the King will desire your beauty.  Because He is your Lord, bow down to Him.  The daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; the rich among the people will seek your favor.” – Psalm 45:10-12

“The King’s daughter is all glorious within; her clothing is interwoven with gold.  She will be led to the King in embroidered work; the virgins, her companions who follow her, will be brought to You.  They will be led forth with gladness and rejoicing; they will enter into the King’s palace.” – Psalm 45:13-15

“In place of your fathers will be your sons; you shall make them princes in all the earth.  I will cause Your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore the peoples will give You thanks forever and ever.” – Psalm 45:16-17

Psalm 46

God the Refuge of His People

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.  Selah.” – Psalm 46:1-3 (the Day of the Lord – at the Seventh Trumpet)

“There is a river (the River of Life, coming from the throne of God – the Millennium – Revelation 22:1) whose streams make glad the city of God (Jerusalem), the holy dwelling places of the Most High.  God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.  The nations made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered; He raised His voice, the earth melted.  The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.  Selah.” – Psalm 46:4-7

“Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has wrought desolations in the earth.  He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariots with fire.  ‘Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’  The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.  Selah.” – Psalm 46:8-11

Psalm 50

God the Judge of the Righteous and the Wicked

The Lord shall Judge all People

“The Mighty One, God, the Lord, has spoken, and summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.  Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shone forth.  May our God come and not keep silence; fire devours before Him, and it is very tempestuous around Him.  He summons the heavens above, and the earth, to judge His people: ‘Gather My godly ones to Me (this is referring to the Rapture), those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.’  And the heavens declare His righteousness, for God Himself is judge.  Selah.” – Psalm 50:1-6

“Hear, O My people, and I will speak; O Israel, I will testify against you; I am God, your God.  I do not reprove you for your sacrifices, and your burnt offerings are continually before Me.  I shall take no young bull out of your house nor male goats out of your folds.  For every beast of the forest is Mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.  I know every bird of the mountains, and everything that moves in the field is Mine.  If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is Mine, and all it contains.  Shall I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of male goats?  Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving and pay your vows to the Most High; call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.” – Psalm 50:7-15

“But to the wicked God says, ‘What right have you to tell of My statues and to take My covenant in your mouth?  For you hate discipline, and you cast My words behind you.  When you see a thief, you are pleased with him, and you associate with adulterers.  You let your mouth loose in evil and your tongue frames deceit.  You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother’s son.  These things you have done and I kept silence; you thought that I was just like you; I will reprove you and state the case in order before your eyes.” – Psalm 50:16-21

“Now consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you in pieces, and there will be none to deliver.  He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me; and to him who orders his way aright I shall show the salvation of God.” – Psalm 50:22-23

Psalm 72

The Reign of the Righteous King

“Give the king Your judgments, O God, and Your righteousness to the king’s son.  May he judge Your people with righteousness and Your afflicted with justice.  Let the mountains bring peace to the people, and the hills, in righteousness.  May he vindicate the afflicted of the people, save the children of the needs and crush the oppressor.” – Psalm 72:1-4

“Let them fear You while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations.  May he come down like rain upon the mown grass, like showers that water the earth.  In his days may the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace till the moon is no more.” – Psalm 72:5-7

“May he also rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.  Let the nomads of the desert bow before him, and his enemies lick the dust.  Let the kings of Tarshish and of the islands bring presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts.  And let all kings bow down before him, all nations serve him.” – Psalm 72:8-11

“For he will deliver the needy when he cries for help, the afflicted also, and him who has no helper.  He will have compassion on the poor and needy, and the lives of the needy he will save.  He will rescue their life from oppression and violence, and their blood will be precious in his sight; so may he live, and may the gold of Sheba be given to him; and let them pray for him continually; let them bless him all day long.” – Psalm 72:12-15

“May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains; its fruit will wave like the cedars of Lebanon; and may those from the city flourish like vegetation of the earth.  May his name endure forever; may his name increase as long as the sun shines; and let men bless themselves by him; let all nations call him blessed.” – Psalm 72:1-16-17

“Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone works wonders.  And blessed be His glorious name forever; and may the whole earth be filled with His glory.  Amen, and amen.” – Psalm 72:18-19

Psalm 83

God Implored to Confound His Enemies

“O God, do not remain quiet; do not be silent and, O God, do not be still.  For behold, Your enemies make an uproar, and those who hate You have exalted themselves.  They make shrewd plans against Your people, and conspire together against Your treasured ones.  They have said, ”Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more.’  For they have conspired together with one mind; against You they make a covenant: the tents of Edom (descendants of Esau, twin brother of Jacob) and the Ishmaelites (Ishmael – first son of Abraham), Moab (son and grandson of Lot) and the Hagrites; Gebal and Ammon (son and grandson of Lot) and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assyria also has joined with them; they have become a help to the children of Lot.  Selah.” – Psalm 83:1-8

“Deal with them as with Midian, as with Sisera and Jabin at the torrent of Kishon, who were destroyed at En-dor, who became as dung for the ground.  Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, who said, ‘Let us possess for ourselves the pastures of God.’ ” – Psalm 83:9-12

“O my God, make them like the whirling dust, like chaff before the wind.  Like fire that burns the forest and like a flame that sets the mountains on fire, so pursue them with Your tempest and terrify them with Your storm.  Fill their faces with dishonor, that they may seek Your name, O Lord.  Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever, and let them be humiliated and perish, that they may know that You alone, whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth.” – Psalm 83:13-18

Psalm 96

A Call to Worship the LORD the Righteous Judge

“Sing to the LORD a new song; Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD, bless His name; Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day. Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.” – Psalm 96:1-3

“For great is the LORD and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.”  – Psalm 96:4-6

“Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory of His name; Bring an offering and come into His courts. Worship the LORD in holy attire; Tremble before Him, all the earth.”  – Psalm 96:7-9

“Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity.”  Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; Let the sea roar, and all it contains;  Let the field exult, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy Before the LORD, for He is coming, For He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness And the peoples in His faithfulness.”  – Psalm 96:10-13

Psalm 102

Prayer of an Afflicted Man for Mercy on Himself and on Zion

“Hear my prayer, O Lord!  And let my cry for help come to You.  Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress; incline Your ear to me; in the day when I call answer me quickly.  For my days have been consumed in smoke, and my bones have been scorched like a hearth.  My heart has been smitten like grass and has withered away, indeed, I forget to eat my bread.  Because of the loudness of my groaning my bones cling to my flesh.  I resemble a pelican of the wilderness; I have become like an owl of the waste places.  I lie awake, I have become like a lonely bird on a housetop.” – Psalm 102:1-7

“My enemies have reproached me all day long; those who deride me have used my name as a curse.  For I have eaten ashes like bread and mingled my drink with weeping because of Your indignation and Your wrath, for You have lifted me up and cast me away.  My days are like a lengthened shadow, and I wither away like grass.” – Psalm 102:8-11

“But You, O Lord, abide forever, and Your name to all generations.  You will arise and have compassion on Zion; for it is time to be gracious to her, for the appointed time has come.  Surely Your servants find pleasure in her tones and feel pity for her dust.  So the nations will fear the name of the Lord and all the kings of the earth Your glory.  For the Lord has built up Zion; He has appeared in His glory.  He has regarded the prayer of the destitute and has not despised their prayer.” – Psalm 102:12-17

“This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord.  For He looked down from His holy height; from heaven the Lord gazed upon the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to set free those who were doomed to death, that men may tell of the name of the Lord in Zion and His praise in Jerusalem, when the peoples are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.” – Psalm 102:18-22

“He has weakened my strength in the way; He has shortened my days.  I say, “O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days, Your years are throughout all generations.  Of old You founded the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.  Even they will perish, but You endure; and all of them will wear out like a garment; like clothing You will change them and they will be changed.  But You are the same, and Your years will not come to an end.  The children of Your servants will continue, and their descendants will be established before You.’ ” – Psalm 102:23-28

The Lord Gives Dominion to the King

Th Coming of the Priest – King – Judge

A Psalm of David

“The Lord says to my Lord: ‘Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.’  The Lord will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, saying, ‘Rule in the midst of Your enemies.’  Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power; in holy array, from the womb of the dawn, Your youth are to You as the dew.” – Psalm 110:1-3

“The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.’  The Lord is at Your right hand; He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath.  He will judge among the nations, He will fill them with corpses, He will shatter the chief men over a broad country.  He will drink from the brook by the wayside; therefore He will lift up His head.” – Psalm 110:4-7

Psalm 146

The Lord an Abundant Helper

“Praise the Lord!  Praise the Lord, O my soul!  I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.  Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.  When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.” – Psalm 146:1-4

“Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them – the Lord, who remains faithful for ever.” – Psalm 146:5-6

“He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.  The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous.  The Lord watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but He frustrates the ways of the wicked.” – Psalm 146:7-9

“The Lord reigns for ever, your God, O Zion, for all generations.  Praise the Lord.” – Psalm 146:10
