Speculations on the Seven Thunders – Part Four

Part Four continues to discuss possible, I repeat, possible thunder judgments.  This is completely speculative and open to debate.

Isaiah 57:11 – “Is it not because I have long been silent that you do not fear Me?”

Jeremiah 25:30-31 – “Therefore you shall prophesy against them all these words, and you shall say to them, ‘The Lord will roar from on high and utter His voice from His holy habitation; He will roar mighty against His fold.  He will shout like those who tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.  A clamor has come to the end of the earth, because the Lord has a controversy with the nations.  He is entering into judgment with all flesh; as for the wicked, He has given them to the sword,’ declares the Lord.”

————————————————————————————-

The Lord’s day of wrath is revealed in so many Biblical passages – a dire, deadly warning against all the wicked – NEVER downplay the righteousness and vengeance of God – it’s your everlasting future at stake:

  • Isaiah 34:1-2 – God’s Wrath against Nations: “Draw near, O nations, to hear; and listen, O peoples!  Let the earth and all it contains hear, and the world and all that springs from it.  For the Lord’s indignation is against all the nations, and His wrath against all their armies…”
  • Isaiah 59:18-19 – “According to their deeds, so He will repay, wrath to His adversaries, recompense to His enemies…so they will fear the name of the Lord…”
  • Isaiah 63:6 – “I trod down the peoples in My anger and made them drunk in My wrath, and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.”
  • Jeremiah 10:10 – “But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King.  At His wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure His indignation.”
  • Jeremiah 23:19-21 – “Behold, the storm of the Lord has gone forth in wrath, even a whirling tempest; it will swirl down on the head of the wicked.  The anger of the Lord will not turn back until He has performed and carried out the purposes of His heart.  In the last days you will clearly understand it.”
  • Micah 5:15 – “I will execute vengeance in anger and wrath on the nations which have not obeyed.”
  • Nahum 1:2-3 – “A jealous and avenging God is the Lord; the Lord is avenging and wrathful.  The Lord takes vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath for His enemies.  The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished.”
  • Nahum 1:6 – “Who can stand before His indignation?  Who can endure the burning of His anger?”
  • Zephaniah 1:14-15 – “Near is the great day of the Lord, near and coming very quickly; listen, the day of the Lord…A day of wrath is that day, a day of trouble and distress, a day of destruction and desolation…”
  • Zephaniah 1:18 – “Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them on the day of the Lord’s wrath; and all the earth will be devoured in the fire of His jealousy, for He will make a complete end, indeed a terrifying one, of all the inhabitants of the earth.”

End Times plague and judgment – Flesh to rot:

Zechariah 14:12 – God will be King over All: “Now this will be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth.

I am of the opinion that Zechariah 14:12 is possibly another thunder judgment.  I must stress that this is total speculation.

This curse is unique.  It is not mentioned anywhere else but here in Zechariah.  It’s not in the Book of Revelation.  The details speak of flesh, eyes and tongues rotting, while they stand on their feet.  We know those are possible results of nuclear warfare.  But the Lord clearly states that this plague comes from Him.

It is directed at Jerusalem’s enemies.  Note the phrase: ‘the Lord will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem…’.  That means all the peoples from all the nations who have turned against Jerusalem – worldwide.

Isaiah 29:7-8 – “And the multitude of all the nations who wage war against Ariel, even all who wage war against her…thus the multitude of all the nations will be who wage war against Mount Zion.”

The numbers will be catastrophic.

Elsewhere in Zechariah 12:9 – “And in that day I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.”  All nations – not just Israel’s immediately-surrounding enemies.  The Lord is very protective of Jerusalem.  And His wrath will be great on those who are against His holy city.

Scripture makes it very clear.

Based on the uniqueness and sheer overwhelming magnitude of those who will be annihilated, I believe it could be considered as one of the thunder judgements.

————————————————————————————-

The following curse is similar, but separate.

Zechariah 14:15 – “So also like this plague will be the plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, the donkey and all the cattle that will be in those camps.”  This Scripture writes about a similar plague of rotting flesh (from Zechariah 14:12), on their animals.

Egypt’s fifth plague was strictly on the livestock – Exodus 9:1-7 – “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Go to Pharaoh and speak to him, “Thus says the Lord…‘Let My people go…for if you refuse to let them go…behold, the hand of the Lord will come with a very severe pestilence on your livestock which are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks.  But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, so that nothing will die of all that belongs to the sons of Israel.’ ” ’…So the Lord did this thing on the next day, and all the livestock of Egypt died; but of the livestock of the sons of Israel, not one died.  Pharaoh sent, and behold, there was not even one of the livestock of Israel dead.”

Egypt’s fifth plague was about death of the livestock only, on the people against God.  It may be possible that the plague in Zechariah 14:15, on the animals of ‘those camps’ may be a separate judgment and it may be a thunder judgment.  I will leave it up to the readers to decide for themselves.

The curse of Death:

The following speculation concerning what the thunder judgments may have spoken is still on the topic of death.  It’s possible the above judgments of rotting flesh, both on men and animals, are actually included in the following dreadful judgment of death.

I can’t stress enough that all the possible thunder judgments presented are purely speculative.  Scripture has been provided to reveal what the Bible states, but it will be left with the readers to discern for themselves.

Egypt’s tenth and final plague was death (Exodus 11:1-12:30).  Most of the other plagues at the time of Egypt are repeated in the End Times: the plague of water turned into blood; plague of livestock; plague of boils; plague of hail, thunder, fire; plague of locusts and the plague of darkness.  The whole story of Egypt could be a forerunner of similar events that will take place in the future.  “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us.” – Romans 15:4.

Death is the fourth seal judgment in the Book of Revelation (6:7-8).  Death and Hades will kill over a fourth of the earth.  This death will be by the dark, evil forces, not the Lord, although the Lord does give the authority.  Revelation 6:8 – “Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.”

At the sixth trumpet two hundred million horsemen will kill one third of mankind by the three plagues of fire and smoke and brimstone/sulphur which come from the horses’ mouths (Revelation 9:13-21).  This woe will be against the wicked, at the start of the Great Tribulation, half way through the seven year tribulation.
It is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:9 – “For God has not destined us for wrath…”.  True believers are not appointed to the wrath of God.  They may suffer persecution and even death at the hands of man, but not God’s wrath.

The Day of the Lord is the day of God’s judgment and wrath on the world.  God keeps His word.

  • Isaiah 13:6-9 – “Wail, for the day of the Lord is near!  It will come as destruction from the Almighty…and He will exterminate its sinners from it.”
  • Isaiah 13:11 – Judgment on the Day of the Lord: “Thus I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their iniquity; I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud and abase the haughtiness of the ruthless.”
  • Isaiah 13:13-15 – Judgment on the Day of the Lord: “In the day of His burning anger…Anyone who is found will be thrust through, and anyone who is captured will fall by the sword.”
  • Isaiah 26:21 – “For behold, the Lord is about to come out from His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity.”
  • Isaiah 31:8 – “…will fall by a sword not of man, and a sword not of man will devour him.  So he will not escape the sword…”
  • Isaiah 34:1-6 – God’s Wrath against Nations: “Draw near, O nations, to hear; and listen, O peoples!  Let the earth and all it contains hear, and the world…for the Lord’s indignation is against all the nations, and His wrath against all their armies; He has utterly destroyed them, He has given them over to slaughter.  So their slain will be thrown out, and their corpses will give off their stench, and the mountains will be drenched with their blood…For My sword is satiated in heaven, behold it shall descend for judgment upon Edom and upon the people whom I have devoted to destruction.  The sword of the Lord is filled with blood…“
  • Isaiah 65:11-12 – “But you who forsake the Lord…I will destine you for the sword, and all of you will bow down to the slaughter.  Because I called, but you did  not answer; I spoke, but you did not hear.  And you did evil in My sight and chose that in which I did not delight.”
  • Isaiah 66:15-16 – “For behold, the Lord will come in fire and His chariots like the whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire.  For the Lord will execute judgment by fire and by His sword on all flesh, and those slain by the Lord will be many.”
  • Jeremiah 25:29 – “ ‘You will not be free from punishment; for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth,’ declares the Lord of hosts.”part four
  • Jeremiah 25:33 – “Those slain by the Lord on that day will be from one end of the earth to the other.”
  • Jeremiah 25:31 – “ ‘A clamor has come to the end of the earth, because the Lord has a controversy with the nations.  He is entering into judgment with all flesh; as for the wicked, He has given them to the sword,’ declares the Lord.”
  • Jeremiah 46:10 – “For that day belongs to the Lord God of hosts, a day of vengeance, so as to avenge Himself on His foes; and the sword will devour and be satiated and drink its fill of their blood; for there will be a slaughter for the Lord God of hosts…”
  • Jeremiah 47:6-7 – “Ah, sword of the Lord…how can it be quiet, when the Lord has given it an order…He has assigned it.”
  • Hosea 7:13 – “ ‘Woe to them, for they have strayed from Me!  Destruction is theirs, for they have rebelled against Me!  I would redeem them, but they speak lies against Me.’ ”
  • Amos 9:1 – “…I will slay the rest of them with the sword.”
  • Obadiah 1:15 – “For the day of the Lord draws near on all the nations.  As you have done, it will be done to you.  Your dealings will return on your own head.”
  • Nahum 3:15 – “There fire will consume you, the sword will cut you down…’
  • Zephaniah 1:14-18 – “Near is the great day of the Lord…a day of wrath is that day…a day of trumpet…I will bring distress on men…because they have sinned against the Lord; and their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung…and all the earth will be devoured in the fire of His jealousy, for He will make a complete end, indeed a terrifying one of all the inhabitants of the earth.”
  • 1 Samuel 2:10 – “Those who contend with the Lord will be shattered; against them He will thunder in the heavens, the Lord will judge the ends of the earth; and He will give strength to His king, and will exalt the horn of His anointed.”
  • Malachi 4:1 – “ ‘For behold, the day is coming, burning like furnace, and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
  • Malachi 4:3 – “ ‘You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 – “For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.  While they are saying, ‘Peace and safety!’ then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains…and they will not escape.”
  • Revelation 1:16 – “In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword…”
  • Revelation 2:16 – “ ‘Therefore repent; or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of My mouth.’ ”
  • Revelation 19:15 – The Coming of Christ: “From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations…”
  • Revelation 19:21 – “And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse…

At the seventh trumpet the Lord Christ Jesus returns to rapture His saints and to destroy the wicked.  The wicked are sentenced to spend 1,000 years in the torment of Hades, after which time there will be the Great White Throne Judgment.  Following their judgment from “Him who sits on the throne” (Revelation 4:10), all the wicked will be thrown into “the lake of fire, which burns with brimstone” (Revelation 19:20), where “there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:50).  “They will be tormented day and night forever and ever” (Revelation 20:10).

Final Warning on Death:

Zechariah’s sixth vision of a Flying Scroll (5:1-4) is a fascinating study.  The Lord is once again revealing those “things which must soon take place” (Revelation 1:1).  It is a very ominous curse.  It is absolute speculation, however this also could be considered a possible thunder judgment.

  • KJV – Zechariah 5:1-4 – The Flying Scroll: “Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll.  And he said unto me, ‘What seest thou?’  And I answered,  ‘I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.’  Then he said unto me, ‘This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.  I will bring it forth,’ saith the Lord of hosts, ‘and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.’ ”
  • NIV – Zechariah 5:1-4 – “I looked again – and there before me was a flying scroll…thirty feet long and fifteen feet wide…’this is the curse…for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished…it will enter the house of the thief and the house of him who swears falsely by my name.  It will remain in his house and destroy it, both its timbers and its stones.’ ”

The Flying Scroll is rightfully called a curse.  It states that everyone who steals, from God, will be cut off.  And on the other side of the scroll, it states that every liar, those who deny Jesus Christ as Lord, will be cut off.  And the curse will remain in that house and consume it with its timber and stones (meaning there will be no forgiveness of sin, but only “a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of fire” – Hebrews 10:27).

A Thief:

A thief is one who steals: Malachi 3:8-10 – “Will a man rob God?  Yet you are robbing Me!  But you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’  In tithes and offerings.  You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me…bring the whole tithe into…My house…”

Psalm 50:23 – “He who sacrifices thank-offerings honours Me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.’

A Liar:

One who swears falsely (another name for ‘liar’) – is one who denies Christ Jesus as Lord, and keeps His commandments.

  • 1 John 2:22-23 – “Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ?  This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.  Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.”
  • 1 John 2:4 – “The man who says, ‘I know Him,’ but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”
  • 1 John 1:6 – “If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.”
  • 1 John 4:20-21 – “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.  And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also.”

————————————————————————————-

Ezekiel 18:32 – “ ‘For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies, declares the Lord God.  ‘Therefore, repent and live.’ ”

Salvation Call:

Repent, confess your sins, turn from your sins and turn to the Lord and be saved.  Today is the day of salvation.

Romans 10:9-10 says, “…if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

The Bible says we’ve been separated from God because of sin – there is a chasm between us and God – but the Cross bridges the gap between us and God.  God became a man.  He died on the cross to pay for our sins.  The payment of death that we all deserve because of our sins, Jesus took upon Himself and paid the penalty for them.  He rose again and conquered the grave so that if you repent, if you confess your sins and you have a change of heart and a change of mind for rebelling against God, and instead you sincerely turn to Him in your heart and you put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and confess Him as your Lord, the Bible says: “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” – Acts 2:21.  If you believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and you confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and that you will follow Him, you will be saved.
