Megiddo – End Times Prophecy

Megiddo / Armageddon – on the Day of the Lord

The Beast, the dragon and the ‘Harlot’ (Revelation 17) rule the world in the second half of the Tribulation.

However, after three and a half years of brutal reign, God destroys the Beast’s kingdom in Revelation 18, following the Lord’s fifth bowl of wrath – darkness.  A repeat of Egypt’s plagues.

The Harlot in Revelation 17 is then utterly annihilated by the Beast and the ten horns – the ten world powers (Revelation 17:16).

The Beast, the dragon and the false prophet gather the kings of the whole world at Megiddo, “for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty” – Revelation 16:14.

The armies are gathered at Megiddo, waiting.  Then, the Day of the Lord begins.  It starts with the seventh trumpet when the Lord Jesus Christ returns at His glorious Second Coming and raptures His saints.

Next, the Lord’s wrath is poured out on the wicked of the world, with thunder and lightning, hailstones, storms and floods, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, darkness, terror, bloodshed, fire and brimstone.  The seven thunders have their day.

The time to repent and turn to the Lord is gone.  Terror, death and punishment for the unbelievers.

Then – Megiddo – and a quick and easy defeat of the Beast (2 Thessalonians 2:8 – Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming), the false prophet, and the dragon, by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Besides Revelation 19:11 – 20:3, the Old Testament also writes about Megiddo.

The following are Scripture verses prophesying Megiddo:

Psalm 2

The Reign of the LORD’s Anointed

1 Why are the nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!”

4 He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them. 5 Then He will speak to them in His anger And terrify them in His fury, saying, 6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”

7 “I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession. 9 ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.’ “

10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth. 11 Worship the LORD with reverence And rejoice with trembling. 12 Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

Isaiah 2

10 Go into the rocks, hide in the ground from the fearful presence of the LORD (Revelation 6:15-16) and the splendor of his majesty! 11 The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled and human pride brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.

19 People will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from the fearful presence of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. 20 In that day people will throw away to the moles and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made to worship.

21 They will flee to caverns in the rocks and to the overhanging crags from the fearful presence of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. (These are the armies gathered at Megiddo.)

Isaiah 10

12 So it will be that when the Lord has completed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, He will say, “I will punish the fruit (the armies) of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria (the Beast) and the pomp of his haughtiness.”

Isaiah 11

4 And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth (Revelation 19:15 – From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations), And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked (2 Thessalonians 2:8 – Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming).

Isaiah 14

Judgment on Assyria

24 The Lord of hosts has sworn, saying, “Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, And as I have purposed, so it shall stand: 25 That I will break the Assyrian in My land, And on My mountains tread him underfoot. Then his yoke shall be removed from them, And his burden removed from their shoulders. (again, ‘the Assyrian’ is the Beast)

26 “This is the plan devised against the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out against all the nations. 27 “For the LORD of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it? And as for His stretched-out hand, who can turn it back?”

Isaiah 18

Message to Cush/Ethiopia

1 Alas, oh land of whirring wings Which lies beyond the rivers of Cush…4 For thus the LORD has told me, “I will look from My dwelling place quietly Like dazzling heat in the sunshine, Like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.” 5 For before the harvest, as soon as the bud blossoms And the flower becomes a ripening grape, Then He will cut off the sprigs with pruning knives And remove and cut away the spreading branches. (Also fulfilled in 730-670 BC – both near and far prophecies) 6 They will be left together for mountain birds of prey, And for the beasts of the earth; And the birds of prey will spend the summer feeding on them, And all the beasts of the earth will spend harvest time on them.

Isaiah 27

1 In that day the LORD will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, With His fierce and great and mighty sword, Even Leviathan the twisted serpent; And He will kill the dragon who lives in the sea.

Isaiah 30

(These verses are leading up to Megiddo – as the gathered armies are waiting, on the plains at Megiddo)

30 And the LORD will cause His voice of authority to be heard, And the descending of His arm to be seen in fierce anger, And in the flame of a consuming fire In cloudburst, downpour and hailstones. (Isaiah 2:10 previously quoted, writes of the army hiding in caves, due to the hail) (Fire from the golden censer, Revelation 8:3; followed by “And the temple of God which is in heaven was opened…and there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a great hailstorm.” – Revelation 11:19)

33 For Topheth (a place of burning) has long been ready, Indeed, it has been prepared for the king (the 8th king – the Beast – Revelation 17:11). He has made it deep and large, A pyre of fire with plenty of wood; The breath of the LORD, like a torrent of brimstone, sets it afire (lake of fire and brimstone – Revelation 19:20).

Isaiah 34

God’s Wrath against Nations

1 Draw near, O nations, to hear; and listen, O peoples! Let the earth and all it contains hear, and the world and all that springs from it. 2 For the LORD’S indignation is against all the nations, And His wrath against all their armies; He has utterly destroyed them, He has given them over to slaughter. 3 So their slain will be thrown out, And their corpses will give off their stench, And the mountains will be drenched with their blood.

Ezekiel 38

Prophecy about Gog and Future Invasion of Israel

1 And the word of the LORD came to me saying, 2 “Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog (Turkey), the prince of Rosh (Russia), Meshech (Turkey) and Tubal (Turkey), and prophesy against him 3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal. 4 “I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them splendidly attired, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them wielding swords; 5 Persia (Iran), Ethiopia (Cush)and Put (Libya) with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6 Gomer (Turkey) with all its troops; Beth-togarmah (Armenia) from the remote parts of the north with all its troops – many peoples with you.

7 “Be prepared, and prepare yourself, you and all your companies that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them. 8 “After many days you will be summoned; in the latter years you will come into the land that is restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel which had been a continual waste; but its people were brought out from the nations, and they are living securely, all of them. 9 “You will go up, you will come like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land, you and all your troops, and many peoples with you.”

10 Thus says the Lord GOD, “It will come about on that day, that thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil plan, 11 and you will say, ‘I will go up against the land of unwalled villages. I will go against those who are at rest, that live securely, all of them living without walls and having no bars or gates, 12 to capture spoil and to seize plunder, to turn your hand against the waste places which are now inhabited, and against the people who are gathered from the nations, who have acquired cattle and goods, who live at the center of the world.’ 13 “Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will say to you, ‘Have you come to capture spoil? Have you assembled your company to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to capture great spoil?’

14 “Therefore prophesy, son of man, and say to Gog, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “On that day when My people Israel are living securely, will you not know it? 15 “You will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great assembly and a mighty army; 16 and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I am sanctified through you before their eyes, O Gog.”

Judgment of God

17 Thus says the Lord GOD, “Are you the one of whom I spoke in former days through My servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those days for many years that I would bring you against them? 18 “It will come about on that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” declares the Lord GOD, “that My fury will mount up in My anger.

19 “In My zeal and in My blazing wrath I declare that on that day there will surely be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. (Revelation 16:18 “And there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder; and there was a great earthquake, such as there had not been since man came to be upon the earth, so great an earthquake was it, and so mighty. ”)

20 “The fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all the creeping things that creep on the earth, and all the men who are on the face of the earth will shake at My presence; the mountains also will be thrown down, (Revelation 16:20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found) the steep pathways will collapse and every wall will fall to the ground.

21 “I will call for a sword against him on all My mountains,” declares the Lord GOD. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother (The Lord creates confusion – men fight each other, a repeat of Judges 7:19 – at the rock of Oreb).

22 “With pestilence and with blood I will enter into judgment with him; and I will rain on him and on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, a torrential rain, with hailstones, fire and brimstone. (Revelation 16:21 And huge hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, came down from heaven upon men; and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, because its plague was extremely severe.)

23 “I will magnify Myself, sanctify Myself, and make Myself known in the sight of many nations; and they will know that I am the LORD.”‘

Ezekiel 39

Prophecy against Gog–Invaders Destroyed

1 “And you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal; 2 and I will turn you around, drive you on, take you up from the remotest parts of the north and bring you against the mountains of Israel. 3 “I will strike your bow from your left hand and dash down your arrows from your right hand. 4 “You will fall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you as food to every kind of predatory bird and beast of the field. 5 “You will fall on the open field; for it is I who have spoken,” declares the Lord GOD. 6 “And I will send fire upon Magog and those who inhabit the coastlands in safety; and they will know that I am the LORD.

7 “My holy name I will make known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not let My holy name be profaned anymore. And the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. 8 “Behold, it is coming and it shall be done,” declares the Lord GOD. “That is the day of which I have spoken.

17 “As for you, son of man, thus says the Lord GOD, ‘Speak to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field, “Assemble and come, gather from every side to My sacrifice which I am going to sacrifice for you, as a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh and drink blood. 18 “You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, as though they were rams, lambs, goats and bulls, all of them fatlings of Bashan. 19 “So you will eat fat until you are glutted, and drink blood until you are drunk, from My sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. 20 “You will be glutted at My table with horses and charioteers, with mighty men and all the men of war,” declares the Lord GOD.

(Revelation 19:17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, “Come, assemble for the great supper of God,

19:18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great.”

19:21 And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.)

Daniel 7

11 Then I kept looking because of the sound of the boastful words which the horn was speaking; I kept looking until the beast was slain, and its body was destroyed and given to the burning fire.

19 Then I desired to know the exact meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its claws of bronze

26 But the court will sit for judgment, and his dominion will be taken away, annihilated and destroyed forever.

Joel 2

20 But I will remove the northern army far from you, And I will drive it into a parched and desolate land, And its vanguard into the eastern sea (The Dead Sea), And its rear guard into the western sea (The Mediterranean). And its stench will arise and its foul smell will come up, For He has done great things.

Haggai 2

Future Destruction of the Nations

20 Then the word of the LORD came a second time to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying, 21 “Speak to Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying, ‘I am going to shake the heavens and the earth. 22 ‘I will overthrow the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the power of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots and their riders, and the horses and their riders will go down, everyone by the sword of another (Again, confusion. Men turn on each other.).’

2 Thessalonians 2

8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; 9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.

Book of Revelation

The Coming of Christ

Megiddo/Armageddon in The Book of Revelation

Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.

19:12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself.

19:13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

19:16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

19:14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.

19:19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.

19:15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.

14:20 And the wine press was trodden outside the city, and blood came out from the wine press, up to the horses’ bridles, for a distance of two hundred miles.

(Joel 3:13-14 – “Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe.  Come, tread, for the wine press is full; the vats overflow, for their wickedness is great.  Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!”)

19:17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, “Come, assemble for the great supper of God,

19:18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great.”

19:21 And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.

(Ezekiel 39:17 – “…speak to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field, ‘Assemble and come, gather from every side to My sacrifice which I am going to sacrifice for you, as a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh and drink blood…’ ”)

Doom of the Beast and False Prophet

19:20 And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.

Satan Bound

20:1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.

20:2 And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;

20:3 and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.
