Revelation 19: ‘The Rider on the White Horse’ / ‘The Coming of Christ’:
Revelation 19:11 – “I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice He judges and makes war.”
Revelation 19:12 – “His eyes are like blazing fire, and on His head are many crowns. He has a name written on Him that no-one but He Himself knows.”
Revelation 19:13 – “He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God.”
Revelation 19:16 – “On his robe and on His thigh He has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS “
Revelation 19:14 – “The armies of heaven were following Him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.”
“Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoke against Him.” – Jude 14-15
“Then the Lord, my God, will come, and all the holy ones with Him!” – Zechariah 14:5
“He came from the midst of ten thousand holy ones; at His right hand there was flashing lightning for them.” – Deuteronomy 33:2
“… at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints.” – 1 Thessalonians 3:13
ARMAGEDDON
Valley of Megiddo – Jezreel – Valley of Jehoshaphat
“Let the nations be roused; let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the nations on every side. Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, trample the grapes, for the winepress is full and the vats overflow – so great is their wickedness!” – Joel 3:12-13
Wickedness is equated with fermented wine – very important principle throughout scripture. Isaiah 51:21 – “Please hear this, you afflicted, who are drunk, but not with wine.” It is also the same as leavened bread. 1 Corinthians 5:8 – “Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” Matthew 16:6 – “And Jesus said to them, ‘Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’” Wickedness = fermented wine = leaven. Whereas “new wine” – metaphorically – writes of God’s true doctrines, The Word.
” ‘The Lord will roar from on high and utter His voice from His holy habitation; He will roar mightily against His fold. He will shout like those who tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. A clamor has come to the end of the earth, because the Lord has a controversy with the nations. He is entering into judgment with all flesh; as for the wicked, He has given them to the sword,’ declares the Lord.” – Jeremiah 25:30-31
“Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His Anointed saying, ‘Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!’ He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them. Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying, ‘But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain.’ ” – Psalm 2:1-6
Revelation 19:19 – “Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and His army.”
‘The Beast and Its Armies Defeated’:
Revelation 19:15 – “Out of His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. ‘He will rule them with an iron sceptre.’ He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.”
‘sword’ from the above verse:
” ‘These are the words of Him who has the sharp, double-edged sword.’ ” – Revelation 2:12
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12
‘iron sceptre’:
“He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth; with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked one. Righteousness will be His belt and faithfulness the sash round His waist.” – Isaiah 11:4-5 (and in Revelation 19:11 – the rider is called Faithful and True)
“You will rule them with an iron sceptre, you will dash them to pieces like pottery.” – Psalm 2:9
“Iron is taken from the dust, and copper is smelted from rock.” – Job 28:2
Revelation 14:20 – “And the wine press was trodden outside the city, and blood came out from the wine press, up to the horses’ bridles, for a distance of two hundred miles.”
“The Lord is angry with all nations; His wrath is upon all their armies. He will totally destroy them, He will give them over to slaughter. Their slain will be thrown out, their dead bodies will send up a stench; the mountains will be soaked with their blood.” – Isaiah 34:3
“My sword has drunk its fill in the heavens; see it descends in judgment on Edom, the people I have totally destroyed.” – Isaiah 34:5 (an Old Testament country east of Israel, on the other side of the Dead Sea)
“The sword of the Lord is bathed in blood.” – Isaiah 34:6
“Who is this coming from Edom, from Bozrah, with His garments stained crimson?” – Isaiah 63:1 (Bozrah was the capital of Edom)
“Why are your garments red, like those of one treading the winepress? ‘I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no-one was with Me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing. For the day of vengeance was in My heart, and the year of My redemption has come. I looked, and there was no one to help, and I was astonished and there was no one to uphold; so My own arm brought salvation to Me and My wrath upheld Me. I trod down the peoples in My anger and made them drunk in My wrath, and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.’ ” – Isaiah 63:2-6
“In that day the Lord will punish the powers in the heavens above [the fallen angels] and the kings on the earth below. They will be herded together like prisoners bound in a dungeon; they will be shut up in prison [remember Revelation 18:2 – wasteland Babylon] and be punished after many days [Great White Throne Judgment]. The moon will be abashed, the sun ashamed, for the Lord Almighty will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before its elders gloriously.” – Isaiah 24:21-23
“See, the Lord is coming with fire, and His chariots are like a whirlwind; He will bring down His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire. For with fire and with His sword the Lord will execute judgment upon all men, and many will be those slain by the Lord.” – Isaiah 66:15-16
“The Lord declares, ‘I am going to make Jerusalem a cup of trembling that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations.
All who try to move it will injure themselves. On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness,’ declares the Lord. ‘I will keep a watchful eye over the house of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. Then the leaders of Judah will say in their hearts, “The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the Lord Almighty is their God.” ‘ ” – Zechariah 12:2-5
” ‘On that day I will make the leaders of Judah like a fireboat in a woodpile, like a flaming torch among sheaves. They will consume right and left all the surrounding peoples, but Jerusalem will remain intact in her place. The Lord will save the dwellings of Judah first, so that the honour of the house of David and of Jerusalem’s inhabitants may not be greater than that of Judah. On that day the Lord will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel of the Lord going before them. On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.’ ” – Zechariah 12:6-9
” ‘In that day,’ declares the Lord, ‘I will destroy your horses from among you and demolish your chariots. I will destroy the cities of your land and tear down all your strongholds. I will destroy your witchcraft and you will no longer cast spells. I will destroy your carved images and your sacred stones from among you; you will no longer bow down to the work of your hands. I will uproot from among you your Asherah poles and demolish your cities. I will take vengeance in anger and wrath upon the nations that have not obeyed Me.’ ” – Micah 5:10-15
Notice the difference in description of the Lord Christ for the Rapture and then for Armageddon. When the Lord Christ Jesus returns for the Rapture: Revelation 14:14 – “sitting on the cloud was one like a son of man, having a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand”. After this, when He comes for Armageddon: Revelation 19:11 – “a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses [the angels; and the saints/the saved – who had just received their new, resurrected bodies at the Rapture]. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations …”
‘The Lord Comes and Reigns’ / On That Day / Zechariah Chapter 14, written 520 BC prophesying from Armageddon to the Millennium:
- “Behold, a day is coming for the Lord when the spoil taken from you will be divided among you. For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city.” – Zechariah 14:1-2
- “Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle. On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel [Mount of Olives]. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake (Amos 1:1) in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with Him.” – Zechariah 14:3-5
- “On that day there will be no light, no cold or frost. It will be a unique day, without daytime or night-time – a day known to the Lord. When evening comes, there will be light. On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea (the Dead Sea) and half to the western sea (the Mediterranean), in summer and in winter.” Zechariah 14:6-8
- “The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and His name the only name.” – Zechariah 14:9
- “All the land will be changed into a plain from Geba (a city of Benjamin) to Rimmon south of Jerusalem; but Jerusalem will rise and remain on its site from Benjamin’s Gate as far as the place of the First Gate to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s wine presses. People will live in it, and there will no longer be a curse, for Jerusalem will dwell in security.” – Zechariah 14:10-11
- “This is the plague with which the Lord will strike all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. On that day men will be stricken by the Lord with great panic. Each man will seize the hand of another, and they will attack each other. Judah too will fight at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected – great quantities of gold and silver and clothing. A similar plague will strike the horses and mules, the camels and donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.” – Zechariah 14:12-15
- “Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, they will have no rain. If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The Lord will bring on them the plague He inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.” – Zechariah 14:16-19
- “On that day ‘HOLY TO THE LORD’ will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the cooking pots in the Lord’s house will be like the sacred bowls in front of the altar. Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the Lord Almighty, and all who come to sacrifice will take some of the pots and cook in them. And on that day there will no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord Almighty.” – Zechariah 14:20-21
Revelation 19:17-18 – “And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in mid-air, ‘Come, gather together for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great.’ “
Revelation 19:21 – “The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.”
” ‘Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.’ ” – Matthew 24:28
” ‘Son of man, prophesy against Gog (the Beast) and say: “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech [Turkey] and Tubal [Turkey]. I will turn you around and drag you along.
I will bring you from the far north and send you against the mountains of Israel. Then I will strike your bow from your left hand (remember the first horseman with a bow – Revelation 6:2) and make your arrows drop from your right hand. On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds and to the wild animals. You will fall on the open field [Megiddo – is miles of flat land], for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord. I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in safety in the coastlands and they will know that I am the Lord. I will make known my holy name among my people Israel. I will no longer let my holy name be profaned, and the nations will know that I the Lord am the Holy One in Israel. It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign Lord. This is the day I haven spoken of.’ ” – Ezekiel 39:1-7
“Son of man, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘Call out to every kind of bird and all the wild animals: “Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrifice I am preparing for you, the great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood. You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as if they were rams and lambs, goats and bulls – all of them fattened animals from Bashan [a region east of the Jordan River – the area of Og the king of Bashan – whom the Israelites destroyed before initially crossing the Jordan – also referred to as Ammon]. At the sacrifice I am preparing for you, you will eat fat till you are glutted and drink blood till you are drunk. At my table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, mighty men and soldiers of every kind,’ declares the Sovereign Lord.” – Ezekiel 39:17-20
‘Doom of the Beast and False Prophet’
Revelation 19:20 – “But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshipped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulphur.”
“Then I continued to watch because of the boastful words the horn was speaking. I kept looking until the beast was slain and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire.” – Daniel 7:11
Notice the beast is thrown into the lake of fire immediately. That only happens to the beast and the false prophet.
“Topheth has long been prepared; it has been made ready for the king. Its fire pit has been made deep and wide, with an abundance of fire and wood; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of burning sulphur, sets it ablaze.” – Isaiah 30:33
Topheth means: ‘place of burning’; ‘place of fire’.
Topheth was also an actual location in the Old Testament times, southeast of Jerusalem, right on the outskirts of the city. It was more commonly referred to as the valley of Hinnom, where the Israelites worshipped idols and pagan gods and performed their demonic practices, including sacrificing their children to Molech, the false god of Moab. They would make their sons and daughters to ‘pass through the fire’ to Molech – burn them alive. 2 Chronicles 28:2-3 – Ahaz, king of Judah – “He walked in the ways of the kings of Israel; he also made molten images for the Baals. Moreover, he burned incense in the valley of Ben-hinnom and burned his sons in fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had driven out before the sons of Israel.”
“So beware, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when people will no longer call this place Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.” – Jeremiah 19:6
‘Satan is bound for 1,000 Years’:
Revelation 20:1-3 – “And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations any more until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.”
‘Israel’s Taunt’:
“On that day the Lord gives you relief from suffering and turmoil and cruel bondage, you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: – ‘How the oppressor has come to an end! How his fury has ended! The Lord has broken the rod of the wicked, the sceptre of the rulers, which in anger struck down peoples with unceasing blows, and in fury subdued nations with relentless aggression. All the lands are at rest and at peace; they break into singing. Even the pine trees and the cedars of Lebanon exult over you and say, ‘Now that you have been laid low, no woodsman comes to cut us down.’ The grave below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you – all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones – all those who were kings over the nations. They will all respond, they will say to you, ‘You also have become weak, as we are; you have become like us.’ All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you. How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations. You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit. Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: ‘Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble, the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?’ All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb. But you are cast out of your tomb like a rejected branch; you are covered with the slain, with those pierced by the sword, those who descend to the stones of the pit. Like a corpse trampled underfoot, you will not join them in burial, for you have destroyed your land and killed your people. The offspring of the wicked will never be mentioned again. Prepare a place to slaughter his sons for the sins of their forefathers; they are not to rise to inherit the land and cover the earth with their cities.’ ” – Isaiah 14:3-21
“The word of the Lord came to me saying, ‘Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre (Satan) and say to him, “Thus says the Lord God, You had the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: the ruby, the topaz and the diamond; the beryl, the onyx and the jasper; the lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; and the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, was in you. On the day that you were created they were prepared. You were the anointed cherub who covers, and I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; you walked in the midst of the stones of fire. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until unrighteousness was found in you. By the abundance of your trade you were internally filled with violence, and you sinned; therefore I have cast you as profane from the mountain of God. And I have destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I put you before kings, that they may see you.’ ” – Ezekiel 28:11-17
“Now the ruler of this world will be cast out.” – John 12:31
