Faith – an active, ongoing, complete trust in God.
Faith is to:
- trust in Jesus
- hope in Jesus
- turn to Jesus
- follow Jesus
- look to Jesus for your salvation
- be fruitful for Jesus – we are ‘saved by grace through faith’ – Ephesians 2:8, but ‘faith without works is dead’ – James 2:17. Therefore, be ‘fruitful in every good work.’ – Colossians 1:10
Faith is to know, and to trust, that what the Word of God says, He will accomplish. “And He who sits on the throne…said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true [they are accurate, incorruptible, and trustworthy].”” – Revelation 21:5. “God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 1:9
The Lord Jesus Christ is the epitome of faithful and true. “And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; ‘These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;’ ” – Revelation 3:14.
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True.” – Revelation 19:11
We too must remain faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ if we are to hope for His salvation and eternal life with Him.
Coming to our Lord and Saviour is the first, ultra important, step. We accept Jesus Christ into our lives and we acknowledge that He died on the cross and rose again, for our justification – “He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification” – Romans 5:25. We must repent and turn away from our sins – “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
And being a new man, we are now to walk the walk of a truly believing Christian: “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;” – Colossians 1:10
And the new man in Christ follows the Lord: “Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Matthew 16:24
“Then Jesus again addressed them and said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever continues to follow Me need never walk in darkness, but he will enjoy the light that means life.’” – John 8:12 – that means eternal life.
And the true believer must stay in and remain in His light of life, until the Lord’s second coming.
“Stay alert, stand firm in the faith, show courage, be strong.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13 – NET
“Remain alert. Keep standing firm in your faith. Keep on being courageous and strong.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13 – ISV
“…continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming.” – John 2:28
Otherwise, the master will come and “will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” – Matthew 24:51
“If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken off] branch, and withers and dies; and they gather such branches and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.” – John 15:6
