The Little Scroll

This ‘Little Scroll’ post is a supplement to the scripture: ‘Revelation 10‘  and the companion article for it: ‘The Angel and the Little Scroll‘.  This post provides a more in-depth study on the topic.

Revelation 10:2 – “and he had in his hand a little book which was open”

Revelation 10:8-11 – “Then the voice which I heard from heaven, I heard again speaking with me, and saying, ‘Go, take the book which is open in the hand of the angel…’.  So I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little book.  And he said to me, ‘Take it and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.’’  I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and in my mouth it was sweet as honey; and when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter.  And he said to me, ‘You must prophesy again concerning many peoples and nations and tongues and kings.’ ”

In summary of the above scripture – the angel hands John an open scroll and commands him to eat it.  The words from the scroll ‘taste sweet as honey’, but upsets his stomach, meaning: good news, bad news.  Then John is commanded to go speak the prophetic words from the scroll.

The following will expound on three points:

Who may have written the scroll, when John is to actually prophesy its message and what it says.

#1.

Who may have written the scroll/book/tablet/parchment?

John’s little scroll might, I repeat, might, have been written by Isaiah.  We can’t be certain, however it should be considered a possibility.

Isaiah 30:8: – “Now go, write it on a tablet before them and inscribe it on a scroll, that it may serve in the time to come as a witness forever.”

Also of note, twice in Revelation 10 it states the book/scroll is already open – it’s not sealed like the Lamb’s seven sealed scroll.

Isaiah 30:8 scroll appears to meet this criteria of an open book.

Many sites write that John is handed the seven sealed scroll that the Lamb has been unsealing.  That isn’t possible because there are still the sixth and seventh seals yet to break.

#2.

When does John actually get to prophesy its message since he receives it after the tribulation period and right before the seventh trumpet sounds, which heralds in the Day of the Lord, the Rapture and Armageddon.

Isaiah 29:18 – “On that day the deaf will hear words of a book, and out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see.  ”‘On that day’ refers to the Day of the Lord – at the seventh trumpet.  Words of a book/a scroll, are heard by the people and their eyes are open to the truth.

Isaiah 30:20-21 – “…but your eyes will behold your Teacher.  Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’ ”

John proclaims the prophetic words of the scroll/book on the Day of the Lord – at Christ’s second coming.

#3.

What is John’s prophetic message?

Back to the open scroll in Isaiah 30:8:

Isaiah 30:8: – “Now go, write it on a tablet before them and inscribe it on a scroll, that it may serve in the time to come as a witness forever.”

‘A Witness’ – John is prophesying about – the Lord Jesus Christ – the faithful and true Witness!

” ‘Therefore wait for Me,’ declares the Lord, ‘for the day when I rise up as a witness.’ ” – Zephaniah 3:8

Revelation 3:14 – “ ‘To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: “The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God…” ’ ”

Revelation 1:5-7 – “and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first-born of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.  To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood – and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father – to Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever.  Amen.  Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him…”

  • Isaiah 55:4 – “Behold, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples.”
  • Job 16:19 – “Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my advocate is on high.”
  • 1 John 2:1-2 – “We have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.”
  • 1 Timothy 2:5 – “…one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
  • Hebrews 7:25 – “Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

The Lord Jesus Christ: our advocate, our mediator, the propitiation for our sins, makes intercession, the witness – to God – about all true believers.  He witnesses to God for us – His ‘good and faithful servants’.

Matthew 10:32 – “ ‘Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.’ ”

John 6:40 – “ ‘For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.’ ”

John 6:47 – “ ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.’ ”

However, the Lord Jesus Christ is also a witness against all the unbelievers, the ungodly, the wicked of the world.  Here is the ‘bad news’.

Matthew 10:33 – “ ‘But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.’ ”

  • Jeremiah 42:5 – “May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with the whole message with which the Lord your God will send you to us.”
  • Matthew 23:33 – “ ‘You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?’ ”
  • Mark 16:16 – “ ‘He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.’ ”
  • Romans 8:34 – “who is the one who condemns?  Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God…”
  • Matthew 25:31-46 – “ ‘But when the Son of Man comes in His glory…He will sit on His glorious throne…He will separate…then He will also say…”Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels…these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” ’ ”
  • John 5:40 – “ ‘…and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.’ ”
  • John 6:53 – “ ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.’ ”
  • Matthew 22:13 – “ ‘Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ ’ ”
  • Matthew 13:49-50 – “ ‘So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ ”

The Lord Jesus Christ will also be a witness at Armageddon: Zephaniah 3:8 – ” ‘Therefore wait for Me,’ declares the Lord, ‘For the day when I rise up as a witness.  Indeed, My decision is to gather nations, to assemble kingdoms, to pour out on them My indignation, all My burning anger; For all the earth will be devoured by the fire of My zeal.’ “.

Revelation 3:14-22 – “ ‘The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this: I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or not.  So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.  Becauselittle scroll you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.  Those whom I love I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.  He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.  He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’ ”

“Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him…” – Revelation 1:7

Jesus Christ – the faithful and true Witness, the I Am, the Alpha and the Omega, the Almighty, the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the One who has the sharp two-edged sword, the Avenger, Judge of all the earth, Head over All, the Great King, the Firstborn from the dead, the Living One, the Son of God, the Anointed One, the Morning Star, the Son of Man, the Good Shepherd, the Eternal Life, The Way, the Truth, the Life; Guardian of our souls, our Advocate, High Priest, Redeemer – our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Matthew 13:40-43 – “ ‘So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age.  The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.  He who has ears, let him hear.’ ”

Click here for the article: Isaiah’s Prophecies in the Book of Revelation.  Isaiah’s prophecies paralleled with God’s plagues of wrath during the seals, trumpets and bowls judgments in the End Times.

I previously wrote about the sealed scroll from Isaiah 29:11 in relation to the End Times.  The prophecies in Isaiah 29:6-7 and Isaiah 34:4 very much concern God’s judgment and wrath against the world, on the last day, on the Day of the Lord, at the seventh trumpet.
