“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it…I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life…and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds…and if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” – Revelation 20:11-15

Righteous judgment is coming for every single person: “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgement.” – Hebrews 9:27.
Many people don’t believe it, and still more don’t seem to care, but judgment is coming! You can be sure of it. We must all meet our Maker one day.
The post’s title appears in the Bible three times however this fundamental truth weaves throughout all Scripture. In fact, the word ‘righteousness’ appears in the Bible over 460 times.
“He will judge the world in righteousness” – Psalm 9:8, for His “eyes are too pure to approve evil”, and He “can not look on wickedness with favour.” – Habakkuk 1:13.
“He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His faithfulness.” – Psalm 96:13.
All is lost if God judges righteously for “There is none righteous, not even one.” – Romans 3:10.
However, God can both judge righteously and yet graciously save all who will receive Christ by faith: “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation…He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” – 2 Corinthians 5:19-21.
The Lord Jesus, the Son of God, has taken our judgment upon Himself, and “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” – Romans 8:1.
“…so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.” – Hebrews 9:28.
“He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.” – Acts 17:31.
Jesus Christ is not only our Lord and Saviour, but also our:
- Creator: “All things came into being through Him.” – John 1:3
- Judge: “ ‘For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, so that all will honour the Son even as they honour the Father.’ ” – John 5:22-23
- Mediator: “For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all.” – 1 Timothy 2:5-6
- Advocate: “We have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins.” – 1 John 2:1-2
- Rock: “All drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock with followed them; and the rock was Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 10:4
- King and High Priest: “For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God…to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace.” – Hebrews 7:1-2
- Saviour: “…looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour, Christ Jesus.” – Titus 2:13; “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity.” – 2 Peter 3:18
“In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth.” – Jeremiah 33:15
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse,
and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True,
and in righteousness He judges and wages war.” – Revelation 19:11
