Recap: 7th Seal – Revelation 8:1 – “When the Lamb broke the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.” The silence in heaven is broken with the blast from the 7th and final trumpet.
- trumpet – announces/proclaims/sounds
- bowl – pours out
7th Trumpet, The Rapture, Golden Censer and 7th Bowl – Everything happens at the 7th trumpet – on the Day of the Lord
‘The Lord’s Devastation of the Earth’: “See, the Lord is going to lay waste the earth and devastate it; He will ruin its face and scatter its inhabitants – it will be the same for priests as for people, for master as for servant, for mistress as for maid, for seller as for buyer, for borrower as for lender, for debtor as for creditor. The earth will be completely laid waste and totally plundered. The Lord has spoken this word.” – Isaiah 24:1-3
” ‘I the Lord have spoken. The time has come for Me to act. I will not hold back; I will not have pity, nor will I relent. You will be judged according to your conduct and your actions,’ declares the Sovereign Lord.” – Ezekiel 24:14
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief (remember Revelation 16:15 – ” ‘Behold I come like a thief.’ “), in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.” – 2 Peter 3:10
7th Trumpet:
Revelation 11:15 – “The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: ‘The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever.’ ”
This is where the Rapture takes place – at the 7th Trumpet – believers are caught up before Armageddon.
“We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed – in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will rise up, incorruptible. And we shall be transformed.” – 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” – 1 Corinthians 15:54
“For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord for ever.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

But for now – back to the Wrath of God.
The ensuing wrath of God really is to be feared:
The Golden Censer:
Revelation 8:3-4 – “Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel’s hand.”
In Revelation 5:8 it read, “When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.” The prayers of the saints should be understood to take the role of incense in the temple, which are to be offered up as a sweet aroma to God, and to symbolize prayer. The prayers of the righteous are always pleasing to Him. “May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.” – Psalm 141:2. “And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.” – Luke 1:10
Revelation 8:5 – “Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.”
Summary of Golden Censer Judgments: fire, thunder, lightning, rumblings, earthquake.
Here is John’s’ Little Scroll’ fire prophesy being fulfilled.
This marks the start of God’s last judgments. Fire, as prophesied, followed by the thunder/lightning storm and the earthquake.
“The earth and all who dwell in it melt.” – Psalm 75:3
“Fire goes before Him and burns up His adversaries round about. His lightnings lit up the world; the earth saw and trembled. The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord.” – Psalm 97:3-5
“For behold, the Lord will come in fire and His chariots like the whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire. For the Lord will execute judgment by fire and by His sword on all flesh, and those slain by the Lord will be many.” -Isaiah 66:15-16
“O Lord, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field. The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.” – Joel 1:19-20
“The Lord God of hosts, the One who touches the land so that it melts.” – Amos 9:5
“His wrath is poured out like fire.” – Nahum 1:6
“The great day of the Lord is near – near and coming quickly. Listen! The cry on the day of the Lord will be bitter, the shouting of the warrior there. That day will be a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, a day of trumpet and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the corner towers. I will bring distress on the people and they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their entrails like filth. Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord’s wrath. In the fire of His jealousy the whole world will be consumed, for He will make a sudden end of all who live in the earth.” – Zephaniah 1:14-18 – prophesied around 630 BC
“For all the earth will be devoured by the fire of My zeal.” – Zephaniah 3:8
“When the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed.” – 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10
“But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. … But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.” – 2 Peter 3:7-10
7th Bowl:
Revelation 16:17 – “The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, ‘It is done!’ “
For those doing ‘Word Study’, notice the order of the last two passages and refer back to the beginning of the bowl judgments in Revelation 15:8 – “no one was able to enter the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.” It is finished here. The 7th bowl has been poured out. The temple can now be opened.
Revelation 11:19 – “Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within His temple was seen the ark of His covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a great hailstorm.”
The Ark of the Covenant contains:
- Aaron’s rod that blossomed and produced almonds – ‘The Way’
- The Ten Commandments – ‘The Truth’
- pot of manna from heaven – ‘The Life’.
As the Lord Jesus said, ” ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’ ” – John 14:6
The armies that have gathered at Megiddo to wait for Armageddon (from the 6th Bowl) see God on His throne and the Lord Jesus in heaven when God’s temple is opened in Revelation 11:19:
- “The Lord will cause men to hear His majestic voice and will make them see His arm coming down with raging anger and consuming fire, with cloudburst, thunderstorm and hail.” – Isaiah 30:30. This prophecy writes of the hailstorm and thunder from Revelation 11:19. Also, they ‘hear His majestic voice’ and ‘see His arm coming down’.
- “Then the Lord will appear over them; His arrow will flash like lightning. The Sovereign Lord will sound the trumpet.” – Zechariah 9:14. This prophecy writes of the sounding of the 7th trumpet and the lightning from Revelation 11:19. Also, He appears over them.
You might say here are two witnesses prophesying the events at the 7th trumpet.
Revelation 16:21 – “From the sky huge hailstones of about a hundred pounds each fell upon men. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.”
Revelation 6:15-17 – “Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks: ‘Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?’ “
“Men will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from the dread of the Lord and the splendour of His majesty, when He rises to shake the earth. In that day men will throw away to the rodents and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made to worship. They will flee to caverns in the rocks and to the overhanging crags from dread of the Lord and the splendour of His majesty, when He rises to shake the earth.” – Isaiah 2:19-21 – prophesied around 760 BC
“Then they will say to the mountains, ‘Cover us!’ and to the hills, ‘Fall on us!’ ” -Hosea 10:8 – prophesied around 740 BC
” ‘They will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills “Cover us!”'” – Luke 23:30 (Luke here quoting the prophet Hosea)
“The mountains quake before him and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, the world and all who live in it. Who can withstand his indignation? Who can endure his fierce anger? His wrath is poured out like fire; the rocks are shattered before him.” – Nahum 1:5-6 – around 713 BC
“At the time of Your appearing, you will make them like a fiery furnace. In His wrath the Lord will swallow them up, and His fire will consume them.” – Psalm 21:9.
“From the Lord of hosts you will be punished with thunder and earthquake and loud noise, with whirlwind (tornadoes and hurricanes) and tempest and the flame of a consuming fire.” – Isaiah 29:6
“Clouds and thick darkness surround Him; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him and burns up His adversaries round about. His lightnings lit up the world; the earth saw and trembled. The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the peoples have seen His glory. Let all those be ashamed who serve graven images, who boast themselves of idols; worship Him, all you gods.” – Psalm 97:2-7
In the fire of His jealousy the whole world will be consumed, for He will make a sudden end of all who live in the earth.” – Zephaniah 1:4-18 – written around 630 BC
“This is what will happen in that day: When Gog (The Beast) attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign Lord. In My zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel … the mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground … every man’s sword will be against his brother … I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulphur (possibly from volcanic eruptions) on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him (the Beast). And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight (Revelation 11:19) of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.” – Ezekiel 38:18-23
Revelation 16:18 – “Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.”
Revelation 16:20 – “Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.”
“The earth is broken asunder, the earth is split through, the earth is shaken violently.” – Isaiah 24:19
“The mountains will melt under Him and the valleys will be split, like wax before the fire, like water poured down a steep place.” – Micah 1:4
“Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” – Isaiah 40:4-5 – written around 712 BC
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.” – Psalm 46:1-3
“As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all mankind will see God’s salvation.’ ” – Luke 3:4-6
“He stood and surveyed the earth; He looked and startled the nations. Yes, the perpetual mountains were shattered, the ancient hills collapsed.” – Habakkuk 3:6
‘The Doom of Babylon’
Babylon is about to receive God’s second cup of wrath just as it was written in Revelation 18:6 during the Fall of Babylon: “give back to her double according to her deeds; in the cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her.”
Revelation 16:19 – “The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of His fierce wrath.”
God’s Second Cup of Wrath:
Revelation 18:21 – “Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: ‘With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.’ “
“ ‘I will rise up against them’ (Babylon/Pergamum/its evil), declares the Lord Almighty. ‘I will cut off from Babylon her name and survivors, her offspring and descendants,’ declares the Lord. ‘I will turn her into a place for owls and into swampland; I will sweep her with the broom of destruction,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” – Isaiah 14:22-23
“The sea will rise over Babylon; its roaring waves will cover her.” – Jeremiah 51:42
“So will Babylon sink to rise no more because of the disaster I will bring upon her. And her people will fall.” – Jeremiah 51:64
Near (Babylon destroyed by Medo-Persia) and far (End Times) prophesies:
“Jeremiah had written on a scroll about all the disasters that would come upon Babylon – all that had been recorded concerning Babylon. He said to Seraiah (a staff officer): ‘When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud.’ Then say, ‘O Lord, you have said you will destroy this place, so that neither man nor animal will live in it; it will be desolate for ever.’ When you finish reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and throw it into the Euphrates. Then say, ‘So will Babylon sink to rise no more because of the disaster I will bring upon her. And her people will fall.’ ” – Jeremiah 51:60-64 – around 598 BC
In Egypt, Pharaoh and his army had been totally destroyed when they attempted to pursue the Israelites through the parted waters of the Red Sea. They all drowned when the waters crashed in over them. God uses water once again here as His judgment, this time against Babylon. Water Judgement in the Bible: first The Great Flood, then Egypt and now Babylon. Always against evil, not the righteous believers of the Lord.
Revelation 18:23 – “The light of a lamp will never shine in you again.” [God, the light -the ‘sun’, is gone from Babylon, forever. Just like in Revelation 6:12: ‘the sun turned black’. And how black? “black as sackcloth made of hair”, worn by mourners. Psalm 78:40 – “How often they rebelled against Him in the wilderness and grieved Him in the desert! Again and again they tempted God, and pained the Holy One of Israel.” Isaiah 63:10 – “But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; therefore He turned Himself to become their enemy, He fought against them.” So there is a double meaning.] The voice of bridegroom [Jesus] and bride [the church] will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world’s great men. By your magic spell [pharmakeia/drugs] all the nations were led astray.
Revelation 18:14 – ” ‘The fruit you long for has gone from you, and all things that were luxurious and splendid have passed away from you and men will no longer find them.'”
Revelation 18:22 – ” ‘The music of harpists and musicians, flute players and trumpeters, will never be heard in you again. No workman of any trade will ever be found in you again. The sound of a millstone will never be heard in you again.’ “
Revelation 18:24 – “In her [symbolic Babylon – synonymous with evil] was found the blood of prophets and of the saints, and of all who have been killed on the earth.“ [Revelation 6:12: ‘the whole moon turned blood red’ is the Lord Jesus, the metaphorical moon, bearing the shed blood from ‘all who have been killed on the earth’, due to sin. That means all – since the first murder – of Abel by his brother Cain (Genesis 4:8).]
“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” – John 1:29
“The day of the Lord is coming – a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger – to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light. I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. … Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the Lord Almighty, in the day of his burning anger.” – Isaiah 14:9-13
